VICTORIA LA MALA

Victoria Ortiz, better known under the stage name Victoria La Mala, is a genre-bending artist blending banda – a traditional Mexican sound – with hip-hop flavours and dance-pop energy. With a stage name translating as “Victoria The Bad”, Ortiz is a bold and fiery personality, producing empowering girl-power anthems with an unabashedly feminist message. Known for her incendiary performances and unapologetic attitude, she has been described as a combination of legendary hip-hop artist Tupac and Latin superstar Selena. Ortiz first rose to fame with the hit single ‘Ahora Soy Mala’, followed soon after by her self-titled debut album. The record gained a huge following across Mexico, leading to a nomination as Billboard’s first Latin Artist To Watch – as the only female artist in her genre. After securing a major label deal with Virgin/EMI, she released her debut single, ‘Vete Mucho’, which displayed her now signature blend of riotous banda, hip-hop beats, and slick pop production. The boundary-breaking release was not only a huge radio hit, but was also accompanied by a massively popular video that became the first by a Mexican regional artist ever to feature on Tidal. Follow-up singles have seen similar success, with ‘Si Va A Doler Que Duela’ receiving fervent support on US Latin radio and hitting No. 1 spots in several countries, and ‘Merezco Mucho Más’ reaching the Top 20 in her native country of Mexico. Victoria La Mala is ready to smash ceilings, shatter stereotypes and take the global music scene by storm in 2019. 56
