THE ROSE

Korean pop-rock group The Rose were formed in early 2015 when founding members Dojoon, Jaehyeong and Hajoon met as buskers on the streets of Hongdae, Korea. Initially named Windfall, the indie trio started writing their own songs while posting covers on YouTube and continuing to hone their craft performing on the street. Fast forward to 2017: after signing a major deal with K-Pop label J&Star Company, the band recruited their fourth member Woosung and rebranded as The Rose. The Rose released their official debut single “Sorry” in mid-2017 alongside a wildly popular video that’s topped 7 million views on YouTube – the track was named by Billboard as one of 2017’s best K-pop songs. This was followed by a second single, “Like We Used To”, a soft-rock smash featuring Woosung’s inimitable vocals that turned heads across the world and focused international attention on the group. Taking influence from British indie-rock and pop, the group have drawn comparisons to fellow pop-rock heart-throbs The 1975. Despite being a part of the mainstream K-pop scene, the group still maintain total creative freedom in their work, writing all of their own music and lyrics. 2018 has been a breakout year for the band. January saw the group listed as one of the top 5 Korean artists to watch in 2018 by Billboard, and for good reason – since then they’ve embarked upon both a European tour (visiting Brussels, Moscow, Istanbul, London, and Budapest) and an North & South American tour, following the release of their debut mini-album “Void”, a five-track effort that’s intended to “highlight the darker elements of human emotion through dynamic pop-rock”. Debuting at No. 8 on the World Albums chart, it was a critical and commercial success that points towards an exciting future for these talented young musicians.
