THE POINTER SISTERS

With a career that has spanned more than four decades, The Pointer Sisters are one of the most iconic disco and soul groups of all time. Originally made up of just two of the Pointer siblings, the group grew to include June, Bonnie, Anita and Ruth in 1972. They signed with Blue Thumb Records and won a Grammy Award, with Bonnie leaving shortly after to pursue solo projects. The trio then went on to have their most successful years, releasing some of their biggest singles over the next decade. Tracks such as Automatic and Jump (For My Love) made it into the top 10 and they won Grammy Awards for both of the singles too. They had numerous other high charting hits including Slow Hand, He’s So Shy, Should I Do It an I’m So Excited, all of which got extensive radio play and were featured on MTV. The tracks became iconic parts of the 1980‘s disco scene, being played in nightclubs across the USA and the rest of the world. In 1987, after years of success in the spotlight, they starred in their own NBC Primetime special called Out All Night which profiled the singers and their lives in LA. The documentary was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award. Now, The Pointer Sisters perform with a slightly different but still family orientated lineup, after the tragic death of June Pointer in 2006 and the retirement of Anita Pointer in 2015. Ruth, alongside her daughter and granddaughter, still performs live and the original Pointer Sisters songs are now dancefloor classics.
