With their most recent album, 2017’s Trust the Wire, going straight in at No 1 on the Irish music chart with double-platinum sales, The Coronas are one of the most popular rock bands to come out of Ireland. Now, the four-piece are reaching new audiences worldwide thanks to a successful US tour and huge numbers on Spotify and YouTube. Since releasing their first album, 2007’s Heroes or Ghosts the band have played in front of former US president Barack Obama, opened for Paul McCartney and headlined Ireland’s notorious Oxegen Festival. The four musicians that make up The Coronas met in 2003 whist still in college and have since released five studio albums. Their second release, Tony Was an Ex-Con, received Best Irish Album at the 2010 Meteor Awards and reached No 3 in the Irish Album charts. The band went one better on their third album, Closer To You, heading straight in at No 1 on the Irish Indie Charts and reaching No 3 in Ireland’s national chart while the lead single ‘Mark My Words’ topped Today FM’s playlist for an impressive three weeks. Their upward trajectory continued in 2014 when the band’s bitter-sweet, tear-jerking single, ‘All the Others’ made it to No 3 in the Irish singles charts. The single was taken from their fourth studio album, The Long Way released on Universal Records. However, it was 2017’s phenomenal Trust the Wire that saw the band reach global stardom, building a dedicated cult following in far-flung locations such as North America and Asia. Most recently, the group released 2019’s ‘Find the Water’ their most successful single to date.
