Iconic R&B ensemble The Commodores are responsible for some of their genre’s biggest ever hits. Classic funk tracks like ‘Brick House’ and ‘Lady (You Bring Me Up)’ sit in their catalogue alongside immortal ballads like ‘Easy’ and ‘Three Times a Lady’. The Commodores’ greatest success came in the 1970s and 80s, with singer-songwriter Lionel Richie co-fronting the band. The group’s current lineup includes founding member William King, and longtime members Walter Orange and JD Nichols, who both performed on many of the band’s biggest hits. After singing to Motown at the legendary label’s creative peak in the early 1970s, The Commodores released their debut album Machine Gun. The album’s instrumental title track has been featured in hit movies such as Boogie Nights, and played at sporting events all over the US. Since their debut, The Commodores went from strength to strength, fast becoming one of Motown’s most popular and successful acts. The group released nine studio albums with Lionel Richie in the band, and five more after he embarked on his solo career. The Commodores continued to produce classic music without Richie, with their 1985 album Nightshift being widely considered one of their best. With decades spent touring the world, The Commodores have honed their stagecraft to cement their reputation as one of the greatest R&B bands of all time.
