The Blow Monkeys are one of British new wave’s most popular groups, best known for releasing a series of iconic hits throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, including the hugely popular single ‘Digging Your Scene’. Made up of Dr. Robert (Bruce Robert Howard), Mick Anker, Neville Henry, and Tony Kiley, The Blow Monkeys formed in 1981 after Howard, who had spent his teenage years living in Australia, returned to the United Kingdom. This pioneering group of musicians released their debut album, Limping for a Generation in 1984, but their biggest hit would come just two years later, with the release of their sophomore album, Animal Magic. The record reached number 21 on the UK Albums Chart, producing groups most popular single: ‘Digging Your Scene’ peaked at No 14 on the Billboard Hot and No 7 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart in the US, reaching No 12 across the Atlantic on the UK Top 40. The group would continue to find success throughout the 1980s, with third album She Was Only a Grocer’s Daughter hitting No 20 on the UK album charts, thanks to another successful single: ‘It Doesn’t Have To Be This Way’, reached No 5 in the UK, confirming the group’s status as one of Britain’s most popular new wave acts. The Blow Monkeys disbanded shortly after their 1990 release, Springtime for the World, hit the shelves. However, the original members reformed in 2007, releasing new music in 2008 with Devil’s Tavern. Since then, the group has continued to record and tour internationally, reimagining their timeless hit singles for a modern audience.
