One of the biggest pop bands of the 1980’s, Starship released smash hits such as We Built This City and Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now. Starship is made up of members from several other bands who reformed to develop a new sound. Their debut album together, Knee Deep in the Hoopla, contained several smash hits which went on to launch the band’s career. We Built This City and Sara both went straight to number one, with the album going platinum and charting at number 7. They went on to record part of the soundtrack for film Youngblood, and their track Wild Again was used in the film Cocktail with Tom Cruise. Their next album was released in 1987 and was called No Protection. This album spawned the number one power ballad Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now which once again was used as the soundtrack for a movie, this time Mannequin. After a brief hiatus in which the band pursued their own solo projects, Starship reformed, this time calling themselves Starship featuring Mickey Thomas. They have toured regularly since 1992, releasing a DVD documentary in 2003 and a single, Get Out Again, in 2007. In 2013 they released their first album in over 20 years, Loveless Fascination, and performed live at the Streamy Awards the following year. The band continues to tour and release music, and has achieved the great honour of every single one of their albums having turned gold, platinum or multi-platinum.
