SHANNON

Known to global audiences by her first name alone, Shannon Brenda Greene is an American singer and songwriter widely recognized for her success in the freestyle and dance-pop genres throughout the ‘80s. Releasing her smash hit single ‘Let The Music Play’ in 1983, she No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Billboard R&B and Hot Dance Club Play charts. The single served as the lead single to Shannon’s 1983 debut album of the same name, both of which were certified gold with over 500,000 sales: the record went on to sell over 1.5 million copies worldwide and prompted a Grammy nomination later that year. Follow-up single ‘Give Me Tonight’ again took the No 1 spot on the Billboard R&B and Hot Dance Club Play charts while making an entrance into the Billboard Hot 100. After her debut, Shannon went on to release four additional studio albums, including Do You Wanna Get Away in 1985 and Love Goes All the Way in 1986, both of which earned the singer multiple dance hits. After her third album, Shannon took a break from music until after the turn of the millennium, when she released The Best Is Yet to Come. This was followed by her most recent album, 2006’s A Beauty Returns. In 2016, Shannon participated in a national television campaign with Carnival Cruise Lines, before appearing as a contestant on the FOX gameshow Beat Shazam. The singer continues to perform globally and has been recently been asked to join the panel of the Grammy’s Recording Academy in recognition of her contributions to popular music.
