Republica are the creative forces behind one of the most instantly recognisable hits of the 90s: the irresistibly catchy techno-pop smash “Ready To Go”. This alternative rock band, initially made up of Tim Dorney, Andy Todd and charismatic lead vocalist Saffron, released their first singles “Out of This World” and “Bloke” in 1994 and 1995. Their break into the pop mainstream came after their self-titled debut album hit the stores in 1996, reaching No. 4 in the UK charts. Their breakout single “Ready To Go” reached No. 13 in the UK Singles Chart, and has since received extensive radio play and featured in TV and film, remaining indelibly fixed in the public consciousness. Republica emerged as part of a wave of female-fronted guitar bands, such as Elastica, Lush and Garbage, that combined the energy of punk rock with pop-leaning melodies and electronic instrumentation. Following their initial success, Republica released a second single: “Drop Dead Gorgeous” topped the charts with an impressive No. 7 spot. Their second album “Speed Ballads” was released in 1998, with lead single “From Rush Hour With Love” reaching the UK Top 20. In 2001 the band chose to take time out to pursue other projects, but seven years later they reunited and released an electrifying remix version of their smash hit that reached No. 1 on the Upfront Club Chart. Since then, Republica have continued to record and tour across the world, releasing the “Christiana Obey” EP in 2013 to universal acclaim. Though their line-up has changed – Andy Todd has moved on to other projects, while new members Johnny Male and Conor Lawrence have joined on guitar and drums – Republica remain as electrifying as ever.
