PHIL GOOD
Phil Good, an underground electronic artist known for his minimal synth grooves and passionate vocals, gained an online following thanks to singles like “Growing Up” from 2017 and “Be Someone” from 2018. Good, a self-taught producer and songwriter, moved to Los Angeles from his hometown of Portland, Oregon, in 2016, and released his debut single, “Sleeping In,” the same year. In 2017, he released three songs, the most successful of which was the dark-toned “Growing Up,” which became his most-streamed track to date. With singles like “Better,” “Be Someone,” and “Put It All on Me,” Good’s profile grew a year later. He signed with Elektra Records in 2019 and released the single “Wonder.” Good’s first job in the industry was performing with a friend’s band as a guitar player and background vocalist right out of high school. From 2010 to 2012, he toured with them. When Good moved to Los Angeles in February 2016, he realized it was time to start out on his own. Put It All On Me was co-written and co-produced by Good and Max Hershenow, a member of the New York pop duo MS MR, with whom he also co-wrote and co-produced “Better.” After a chat between Good and Hershenow, the songwriting came together easily. Good’s girlfriend, who is also a musician, was feeling discouraged by the music industry at the time. Good says that the message of the song is that everyone needs the opportunity to express their emotions, no matter how irrational they can seem. In 2021, Good released a cover of the Modest Mouse hit Float On, which has garnered over 170,000 views on YouTube.
