Though he flirted with fame after signing to 50 Cent’s G-Unit label, it wasn’t until he joined forces with Busta Rhymes at Conglomerate Entertainment that O.T. Genasis became an overnight rap star. In 2014, the release of his narcotic-fuelled anthem “Coco”, a viral hit that instantly took on meme status, catapulted him into the national spotlight and became one of the year’s most talked-about songs. Crowned by influential DJs such as Funkmaster Flex, Felli Fel, and Khaled as the “hottest song in the streets”, “Coco” has accumulated over 230 million views on YouTube and enjoyed weeks in peak position on the Billboard 100. Since breaking into the mainstream, Genasis has released several highly-lauded mixtapes (2015’s ‘Rhythm & Bricks’ and 2016’s ‘Coke and Butter’) and a trio of hard-hitting singles, titled ‘Do It’ (featuring Lil Wayne), ‘Push It’ and ‘Cut It’ (featuring Young Dolph), the latter of which reached 2x Platinum status in the U.S. 2018 has seen a return to the global spotlight for the rapper, with pop superstar Beyonce using his song ‘Everybody Mad’ as part of her Coachella 2018 performance and in her OTR II tour alongside Jay-Z. Genasis has since been invited on stage with DJ Khaled during the tour to perform ‘Cut It’ live. With a 2018 summer tour alongside Wiz Khalifa and Rae Sremmurd under his belt, his debut album currently in production and new single ‘Cash On It’ slated for imminent release, O. T. Genasis is set to dominate in 2019. 56
