Known the world over as one of the UK’s most unique and musically evolved solo artists, Lily Allen has accrued countless awards throughout her career. Allen first captured the nation’s attention in 2006, when she released her mainstream debut ‘Smile’ – a track unique in sound and which only hinted at the distinct body of work which was to come from the artist. That same year Allen released her debut album ‘Alright, Still’, which would go on to sell over 2.6 million copies and receive a Grammy nomination. From there, Allen’s musical style would continue to grow and she would feature on tracks alongside artists like Azealia Banks, as well as British rappers like Giggs and Professor Green. As well as being known for her distinct musical achievements, Allen has hosted her own BBC Three show Lily Allen and Friends, appeared on Saturday Night Live, and released My Thoughts Exactly in 2018 – a book covering her memoirs as well as various topics revolving around modern feminism, mental health and modern womanhood, and which was nominated for a Mercury Prize. In 2018 Allen also released ‘No Shame’. Her fourth studio album, ‘No Shame’ is an electropop exploration into issues and subjects such as substance abuse, maternity, politics and relationships. The album made it to the top 10 UK Albums Chart and was highlighted through Allen’s worldwide No Shame Tour. Throughout her career, Allen has been known for her active political stances and discourse – which, along with several other key issues personal to the artist, inevitably become expressed within her music.
