East London rap firebrand Kojo Funds has stormed the UK music scene in 2018 with an afrobeat-inspired sound that he has dubbed “afro-swing”. Born in 1995, Funds first turned heads with his streetwise banger ‘Dun Talking’, a huge hit which has since reached 15 million views on GRM Daily. The rapper followed this with a string of knock-out records featuring his pinpoint flows and harmonious ad-libs: ‘Warning’, ‘My 9nine’ and ‘Fine Wine’. Originating in London in the late 00’s, afro-swing blends Carribean and West African flavours with grime, road rap, hip hop, dancehall and British pop music. Kojo Funds is at the forefront of this explosive new sound dominating the UK charts. In early 2017, Funds contributed to the Yxng Bane single ‘Fine Wine’ and featured on Mabel’s ‘Finders Keepers’, reaching number 8 in the UK Official Singles chart. He was also nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2017 MOBO Awards. 2018 has been a breakout year for the rapper, with performances at Bestival and Wireless Festival and the release of a eagerly anticipated mixtape Golden Boy. The project collects his most popular singles and features new and unheard bangers with contributions from Giggs, Bugzy Malone, Yxng Bane, Abra Cadabra and more. READ MORE
