By the time American rapper Kodak Black released his mixtape Lil B.I.G. Pac in 2016, many had already predicted the success he would go on to achieve. Only a year before, Drake had posted a video of himself enjoying and dancing to Kodak Black’s song titled Skrt. The track gained instant popularity and Kodak Black’s fresh sound ensured that Skrt reached an impressive number 10 on Billboard’s Hip-Hop Singles chart. The excitement building around Kodak Black’s young career saw him sign a deal with Atlantic Records, an American record label that has worked with legendary artists in music such as Led Zeppelin, and continues to work with current huge names like Cardi B. Having been earlier touted by XXL Magazine in the early stages of his career, the young rapper did not fail to meet expectations. Upon signing with Atlantic Records he released his debut studio album in 2017, titled Painting Pictures, with which he soared to number 3 on the Billboard 200 and sold a whopping 71,000 units on the first week of release. Kodak Black’s career went from strength to strength as his second studio album, Dying to Live, attracted huge names with Travis Scott, Offset and Lil Pump all featuring. Dying to Live managed to outdo the success of Kodak Black’s first album, reaching number 1 on the Billboard 200 and even managing to chart for a whole 15 weeks.
