Kenny G is one of the world’s most renowned saxophonists, and one of the contemporary jazz world’s most beloved figures. This phenomenally talented instrumentalist has a smooth and emotional sound that’s instantly recognisable, fuelling a successful career that’s seen the release of 14 studio albums and total sales of over 75 million. Kenny Gorelick made his professional debut as part of Barry White’s Love Unlimited Orchestra in the late ‘70s, subsequently signing with Arista records and recording his debut as a bandleader in 1982. It was his fourth album, Duotones, that propelled him into the public consciousness, thanks largely to the alluring single “Songbird”, an instant hit that made the No. 4 spot on the Billboard 100 – not an easy feat for an instrumental release. This success opened doors for Kenny, prompting invites to record for the likes of Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Natalie Cole. The years that followed saw the saxophonist release a series of hugely successful albums: 1992’s Breathless reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and earned Kenny a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition, eventually earning Diamond certification and selling over 12 million copies in the U.S – making it the highest selling instrumental album Records like Moment (1996), Paradise (2002), and At Last… (2004), a duets album featuring LeAnn Rimes and Chaka Khan, further established Kenny as one of America’s most successful instrumentalists, and a figure championed equally throughout the worlds of contemporary jazz and contemporary pop music. Kenny continues to keep an active concert schedule, delighting crowds with performances that showcase his expressive playing alongside a full live band. READ MORE
