Gloria Trevi is a multi-faceted performer and entertainer, who has been a leading figure of the Latin pop music scene for over three decades. Referred to by some as ‘the Mexican Madonna’, the singer-songwriter, dancer, actress and television host is quite simply an entertainment powerhouse, and her extraordinary sales figures have made her one of the most successful Spanish-language recording artists of the current era. Trevi first entered the music industry as part of 1980s girl group Boquitas Pintadas, before releasing her debut solo album, ¿Qué Hago Aquí?, in 1989. She quickly gained praise for her songwriting skills, message of empowerment, and vocal talent, and earned a reputation for tackling important social issues in her work. In the years since, she has sold as many as 20 million records, including 12 studio and four live albums, and a string of international hit singles. Many of her records have been certified gold or platinum in Mexico and the United States, and the albums Gloria, El Amor and Versus have all hit No. 1 in both the Mexican and US Latin Pop Album charts. On screen, Trevi played a lead role in the telenovela Libre Para Amarte, and has appeared in films including Pelo Suelto, Zapatos Viejos and Las Mamás Sí Van Al Cielo. She has served as a host on the hit reality talent show Pequeños Gigantes, and variously as a coach and advisor on the Mexican and Spanish versions of popular singing competition The Voice. Amongst many awards and honours, Trevi has won three Lo Nuestro Awards, three Latin American Music Awards, and a Latin Billboard Award, and has been honoured with the BMI President’s Award in recognition of her impact on Latin pop music.
