The unique concoction of funk, rock, gospel and country that made The Gap Band international superstars underpins the music of Gap X. This in no tribute band. Gap X is comprised of longtime Gap Band members Jimi Macon, Raymond Calhoun, Terry Scott, Oliver Scott, Billy Young, and Roman Johnson, all of whom wrote, recorded and toured as The Gap Band in the past. The Gap Band’s hit songs — including ‘Outstanding’, ‘Oops Up Side Your Head’, ‘Yearning For Your Love’, and ‘You Dropped a Bomb On Me’ — have become R&B and funk classics. Though they were formed in the 70s, the group’s sound has always remained current. In the 1990s, rappers such as Snoop Dogg, Nas and Doctor Dre sampled Gap Band tracks for their music. More recently, Bruno Mars’ ubiquitous ‘Uptown Funk’ was a direct homage to the group, borrowing heavily from ‘Oops Up Side Your Head’. Members of Gap X also have extensive credits working with other esteemed artists. Combined, the members have worked with the likes of The Isley Brothers, Toni Braxton, En Vogue, Babyface, and Whitney Houston. Joining Gap Band veterans is new lead singer Max’C. Max’s range is every bit as impressive as original vocalist Charlie Wilson; he puts his own stamp on the classic material, pleasing old fans and new alike.
