ERICK SERMON

A longstanding American producer and rapper, Erick Sermon has worked in the music industry since 1986 and is best known as a member of the hip-hop group EPMD. The legendary group have released eight studio albums during their time together, and their 1988 debut album Strictly Business sold over 500,000 copies. The band’s biggest hit to date is the 1992 song “Crossover” that reached No 42 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Sermon has also enjoyed great success as a solo artist throughout his career and has released albums through legendary hip-hop imprint Def Jam, Universal Records and J Records. During his time working with this label, Sermon released the hit single “Music”, featuring sampled vocals of the iconic singer Marvin Gaye, which went on to become his bestselling song, peaking at No 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Also a key member of the rap super-group Def Squad, Sermon appears alongside artists Redman, Keith Murray, Method Man and Jamal. Signed with Universal Records, the crew released their debut album El Niño in 1998 and have enjoyed continued success in the years since. With a passion to promote upcoming artists, Sermon started his own record label EP Records in 2008, distributed by RBS/Universal Music Group, under which he also released the seventh album for his band EPMD We Mean Business. He has also collaborated with a number of well-known artists including Busta Rhymes on “Goldmine” from his 2006 album The Big Bang: the record reached No.1 on multiple album charts, including the US Billboard 200 and the UK R&B Album Chart. .
