Donell Jones is a world-famous American singer and songwriter who rose to prominence in the 1990s following the release of his debut album My Heart, and subsequent follow-up Where I Wanna Be, which was later certified platinum. Raised in Chicago, Jones’ career began when he signed with LaFace Records and began writing music for the likes of Usher and 702. In 1996, he released My Heart, his debut album. The album, which Jones produced much of, charted at 30 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Jones quickly followed up with Where I Wanna Be in 1999; his second album was a milestone for the up-and-comer and peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100. Single U Know What’s Up charted worldwide, peaking at number two on the UK Singles Charts. The following year, he was honoured with an American Music Award for Favorite Soul/R&B New Artist. The following years saw Jones release his third and fourth albums, Life Goes On and Journey of a Gemini. The latter became his highest-charting album, topping the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and entering the Billboard 200 top 20. His fifth and sixth albums, Lyrics and Forever were released in 2010 and 2013, respectively. Jones, who has also made waves as a producer, self-produced the majority of his catalogue with few exceptions, and his creative flair is evident across his extensive discography. In the years since his last major release, Jones has been busy collaborating with other artists, including David Banner, Jacquees and Jon B. He has become a popular podcast guest and event host, and his extensive fanbase is excited by the promise of new music in 2021. The new project, currently titled 100%, is set to be released imminently. .
