CARL THOMAS

Carl Thomas is an American singer best known for his chart-topping album Emotional. Hailing from Illinois, Thomas began his career singing locally around his hometown of Chicago. He soon began performing with The Fourmula, a vocal group; the group released Pass It Over in 1994, which became a minor hit. After moving to New York, Thomas began to make a name for himself by playing at open-mic nights and showcases. He was soon noticed by P Diddy, who signed the newcomer to his record label. Thomas began singing backup for major R&B and hip-hop acts, including the Notorious B.I.G., but was destined for something greater. In 2000, Thomas released his debut album, Emotional, which was teased with the release of his first single, the chart-topping I Wish. The album was certified platinum and peaked at number nine on the Billboard 200 and number two on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. The album received praise from many critics and marked Thomas as one of the greats. Thomas followed up with Let’s Talk About It in 2004 and featured on Tupac’s posthumous album Pac’s Life in 2006. The same year, Thomas was honoured with a Grammy Award nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo Or Group With Vocals for Everyday (Family Reunion), a track he recorded with Chaka Khan, Yolanda Adams, and Gerald Levert for Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Family Reunion soundtrack. In the years since, Thomas has released two albums, 2007’s So Much Better and Conquer in 2011. He continues to be an influential vocalist, with over half a million followers on social media awaiting his next move.
