Los Angeles rapper Blueface catapulted into pop culture in early 2019 with his viral hit ‘Thotiana’, taken from his debut solo album Famous Cryp. ‘Thotiana’ entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No 75 and gained serious attention from the wider hip-hop community, resulting in remixes from YG and Cardi B. The hit subsequently peaked at No 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No 4 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and has since found international popularity in countries as far afield as Belgium, Ireland, and New Zealand. During his high school years, Blueface, or Johnathan Michael Porter, attended five different schools where he was heavily influenced by The School Yard Crips gang. Instead of following a path of gangland warfare, he redirected his energy towards his football career. In 2015, Porter signed as a quarterback with Fayetteville State University in North Carolina, but in his first year, he grew dissatisfied with the program and returned to L.A. In 2018, he stepped into his first studio and discovered his ability to rap under the alias Blueface Bleedem, a moniker inspired by his ties to the Crips. In late 2018, Blueface was signed to hip-hop powerhouse Cash Money Records and has since worked with hip-hop icons such as Drake and Quavo. Most recently, the rapper was invited to join Lil Baby’s 2019 New Generation Tour. .
