BLU CANTRELL
Blu Cantrell grew up watching her mother, jazz singer Susi Franco, performing on stage and soon got a taste for life as a musician. Her demo tape earned her immediate attention, gaining backing vocal work for major artists such as Gerald Levert, Faith Evans, Puff Daddy, and Aaron Hall. Her debut single in 2001, Hit ‘Em Up Style (oops!), was an instant smash hit, reaching number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning her two Grammy nominations for best R&B song and best female R&B vocal performance. She was also nominated for an American Music Award as best soul/R&B newcomer. She followed the single with her debut album, So Blu, and a second album, Bittersweet in 2003, which was also Grammy nominated as best R&B album. The album’s main single release, Breathe, features Sean Paul, and was a worldwide hit, holding the number one spot in the UK for four weeks, as well as enjoying chart success across the world. Blu Cantrell has a remarkable four octave vocal range and hits the seventh octave in her performance of her single Waste My Time. Since her chart days, Blu Cantrell has taken to the musical stage, starring in Gossip, Lies and Secrets in 2007. She was also a contestant on the reality TV show, Celebrity Circus in 2008. Recently, Blue Cantrell has been back on tour again, taking part in the RnB Fridays Live Tour, with the likes of Nelly, TLC and Blackstreet. .
