BELINDA CARLISLE

Belinda Carlisle is the American singer-songwriter who rose to fame as the lead singer of The Go-Go’s, one of history’s most renowned all-female bands, and went on to have a fruitful solo career of her own. Founded in 1978, The Go-Go’s released their debut album Beauty and the Beat on IRS Records three years later. The album was a huge success, spawning the hit ‘Head Over Heels’, going double platinum, and coming in at number 2 on Billboard’s top 100 albums of 1982. Releasing two more albums in as many years, The Go-Go’s were one of the major forces in American New Wave music, taking the genre to new heights and wider audiences. The band split up in 1985 and Belinda embarked on a solo career. Her first solo album, titled Belinda, included the hit ‘Mad About You’, and went to number one and three on the Canadian and American album charts respectively. Her sophomore album, Heaven on Earth, gave the world the immortal track ‘Heaven is a Place on Earth’, which topped the singles charts in eight countries, and fast became Carlisle’s signature song. Belinda Carlisle has toured heavily over the years, as a solo artist and as part of the occasionally reunited Go-Go’s. With a new album landing in 2017, it’s clear Belinda is still going from strength to strength. .
