ALOE BLACC

Egbert Nathanial Dawkins III, better known under the stage name Aloe Blacc, is an American singer, songwriter, and producer best known for the single ‘I Need a Dollar’ and his contributions to Avicii’s ‘Wake Me Up.’ His official music career began in 1995, when he paired with hip-hop producer Exile to form the musical group Emanon. The duo released three studio albums and multiple other impressive projects before Blacc launched his solo career in 2003. Blacc released his first full-length solo album Shine Through in 2006, which swiftly earned him a deal with highly respected independent hip-hop label Stones Throw Records. He soon dropped a follow-up album entitled Good Things, which became a commercial success and earned gold certification in the UK, France, Germany, and Australia. The album featured the single ‘I Need a Dollar,’ which shot to the top 10 in multiple countries and has since been used as the theme song for HBO’s How to Make it in America. In 2013, Blacc co-wrote and provided vocals for Swedish DJ Avicii on their single ‘Wake Me Up’, an outstanding display of Blacc’s versatility and a successful deviation from his R&B/hip-hop background. The song quickly became a worldwide mega-hit, reaching No 1 in over 20 countries and earning platinum certification in at least 15. Shortly after, Blacc signed with the renowned record label Interscope Records and included ‘Wake Me Up’ on his third album, Lift Your Spirit, which reached No 4 on the US Billboard 200 and prompted a Grammy Nomination for Best R&B Album. In the years following, Blacc has maintained his dominant position in global music. He is currently embarking on an international tour and enjoying the success of his most recent release, a posthumous collaboration with Avicii entitled ‘SOS.’ .
