Alice Cooper is a renowned singer, songwriter and actor known for his distinctive vocal style, horror-inspired image, and masterful showmanship. Known to many as ‘the Godfather of Shock Rock’, his genre-bending style incorporates hard rock, heavy metal and new wave, and he has gone on to inspire generations of artists including KISS, Gwar and Marilyn Manson. Born Vincent Damon Furnier, Cooper came to fame as part of the band Alice Cooper, whose name he would later adopt. The Phoenix, Arizona-based group released debut album Pretties for You in 1969, and scored hits throughout the early 1970s with records including I’m Eighteen, School’s Out and Under My Wheels. In 1973, they released their most lauded album yet, Billion Dollar Babies, which was certified Platinum, and topped charts worldwide. Cooper later went solo, and would go on to release internationally-acclaimed albums including Welcome to My Nightmare, Alice Cooper Goes to Hell and Flush the Fashion. In 2017, he released Paranormal, his twentieth studio album as a solo artist, including several tracks performed with his band’s original line-up. He continues to tour extensively across all corners of the world. Beyond music, Cooper has worked extensively as an actor, appearing in films including Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Sextette, and Prince of Darkness. He has guested on dozens of television shows, and is the host of the long-running rock music radio show Nights with Alice Cooper. Among his many recognitions, he was received four Kerrang! Awards and two NME Awards, and has been nominated for Grammy Awards in four different decades. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, holds Honorary Doctorates from the Musicians Institute and Grand Canyon University, and has been recognised with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. .
